RESULTS: Paris To Ancaster

Second race, second DNF. But this time it was a mechanical issue that ended my race. At the 50km mark my rear derailleur got jammed and then broke, and the pressure from the chain bent my frame – so now I’m out a derailleur and a bike frame. I’ve contacted the manufacturer to see if they can repair the bike – fingers crossed.

Aside from the DNF, the race was incredible. I was riding really strong, and fast. This race was the second most fun I’ve ever had on my bicycle. The most fun was our trip to Le Tour De France and climbing Alpe d’Huez.

I’ll definitely participate in this event again next year.

The Hangover

Very funny movie.

More funny was the crowd at the Cineplex for the 5pm show. There was a fairly even split between thirtysomething’s and septuagenarians. It was very strange. Leah and I speculated that they were in the wrong theatre and that once the previews were complete and the movie started they’d all leave. But they didn’t. They stayed, and appeared to enjoy themselves. For those who have seen the movie you’ll understand our surprise. For those who haven’t seen it, it’s just what you think it’s going to be.

Mississauga Waterfront Festival

DSC_0016-SMOn Friday evening Leah and I headed out to Port Credit to enjoy a night of music at the Mississauga Waterfront Festival. Tickets for the entire weekend were just $25, and if it weren’t for the rain on Saturday we would have been able to see Kathleen Edwards, Sam Roberts, Skydiggers and 54-40… among many other acts. A great deal for sure!

I recorded Kathleen Edwards and Sam Roberts. If you’re interested in hearing what you missed, check out the links below:

These are not the best recordings I’ve made – but they are very listenable. The constant chatter of the tweens in front of me, the rustling of my gear bag, and other sounds are annoying, but not distracting. There is also a busy set of train tracks right behind the stage, and a number of commuter trains roared by during the performance.

It was a great event, just not for a taper.

Enjoy!

Matt Nathanson – Live in Niagara Falls, NY

On Thursday night Leah and I made the trek down the QEW to Niagara Falls. New York. It’s a different world on the US side of the Niagara River. More on this later…

The concert took place at the Hard Rock Café, and much to our surprise, the restaurant was closed during the afternoon to prepare for the show. This meant that our plan of eating dinner at the Café before the show was bust. Into “Little Italy” we went and settled on McDonald’s. (Was it just the location we went to, or do they not have McChicken’s in the US?)

After dinner we returned to the Hard Rock to take in the musical extravaganza that was The Hutch and Matty Nay.

Matt Nathanson – setlist
t01 – To The Beat Of Our Noisy Hearts
t02 – Car Crash
t03 – Still
t04 – Princess > Jessie’s Girl
t05 – Lost Myself In Search Of You
t06 – Starfish & Coffee > Stayin’Alive > Miss Lucy Had A Steamboat > Starfish *& Coffee
t07 – Laid
t08 – Falling Apart
t09 – Church Clothes
t10 – Wedding Dress
t11 – Come On Get Higher
t12 – Livin’ On A Prayer > Heaven Is A Place On Earth (with Eric Hutchinson)

Aside from the FACT that we had the dumbest human being standing next to us, the event was a lot of fun. And I got to try out my new recording gear!!

Here’s my recording of Eric Hutchinson. Nathanson is coming…

Word of the day – bloviators

Bloviators – people who speak pompously and excessively or expound ridiculously. Apparently it’s used to describe those to hold forth on subjects in an arrogant, tiresome way.

I was introduced to this rather useful word in a communications association email, and it gave me a giggle!
