Last night TFC defeated DC United to run our unbeaten streak to 6 games. Also at The Ex, the Toronto Marlies defeated the Chicago Wolves to continue their playoff run. And just across the street Rihanna and Kanye were performing at The Molson Amphitheatre. Now as exciting as it is to have all of these events taking place in our fair city, having them all share a parking lot, and then deciding to try something new in managing the traffic is just stupid.

I live 6km from the venues and it took us nearly 1 hour to get home. That is unacceptable. The Toronto Police and staff of the Exhibition Grounds closed off a number of roads and were trying to direct traffic… but come on; an hour to travel 6km????

Now on a high note… we didn’t know who was playing at the Amphitheatre so we asked the two guys sitting next to us if they knew. The younger guy (in his 30s) didn’t know. His father, who bears a resemblance to Uncle Leo from Seinfeld, stood up and asked the crowd, “Does anyone know who’s playing at the Amphitheatre? Anyone?”

A couple of younger girls in the row behind us responded, “Kanye and Rihanna.”

Uncle Leo sits down and says to me, “Don’t act like I nevah told ya!”

And we laughed.Â

While in the corner store today, I couldn’t help but notice the purchases of the woman in front of me. She was not only buying Gravol and a hotdog simultaneously, but also popping a pill from the opened but unpurchased box of anti-nausea drugs.Now, a hotdog is never my first choice for lunch – especially from 7-Eleven – but doesn’t this combination of items seem a bit strange?

Talk about sore winners.

Griffin Whitman, a 10-year-old Red Sox fan from Swampscott, was excited to attend his first Yankees vs. Red Sox game Friday night. The young autograph -collector was even more thrilled to score Yankees outfielder Shelley Duncanâ€™s signature before the game. That is, until Griffin read the message from the 27-year-old rookie: â€œRed Sox suck! Shelley Duncan.â€

â€œIt was cool to get his autograph,â€ Griffin said. â€œIt didnâ€™t make me feel happy when he wrote that.â€

Griffinâ€™s mother, Karen, blasted the Yankees sluggerâ€™s bad manners.

â€œThis is someone who wears the Yankee uniform and is on the payroll and should be setting an example for 10-year-olds,â€ she said.

Duncan, son of St. Louis Cardinals pitching coach Dave Duncan, has become a fan favorite in the Bronx for hitting mammoth home runs since he was called up from the minors in July.

Yesterday afternoon, a Yankee spokesman declined to comment until he got a chance to speak to Duncan.
