It’s “Kimberly and Micheal!”

Yesterday we attended the wedding of Kimberly and Micheal in Newmarket and the reception at Woodington Lakes Golf Club in Tottenham. After a harrowing drive up the 404 to Newmarket – the sky was black and the wind nearly blew the car off the road – we arrived in Historic Downtown Newmarket. We quickly made our way to the church; barely beating the procession down the aisle!

In our haste, we forgot the camera in the car for the ceremony so there aren’t any pictures. :(

Leah’s Dad is at home this weekend so after the wedding we went and visited her parents, before heading to the reception. He seemed in good spirits – whether it was because he was at home, or the fact that women’s beach volleyball was on TV I’ll never know!

I’ve never played Woodington Lakes before, but it looked like a nice facility… although I think that the price will deter me from playing there. (I can’t convince myself that paying to play at a course will be better than playing “for free” as I have a membership at Royal Woodbine.

Ryan, Sarah, Kim, Tina & LeahThe rain and dark clouds dissappeared as we arrived at the course and made for a beautiful setting for photos. It was like herding cats trying to get everyone together for a photo, but I think we succeeded with this one! I wish that there was a way to share how HOT!!! it was during the photos. I was melting… as were all of the groomsmen in their tuxedo’s.

The reception was standard fare – a big head table, speeches, a neat slideshow from the bridesmaids, some dancing, a dance contest – which I won, and a whole lot of catching up with old friends.
All in all it was a fun day!

Dr. Generosity

Go there. Have breakfast. Have lunch or have dinner. A couple of months ago we went there for breakfast and it was so good – especially their homemade chili (included in the huevos rancheros) – that we had to go back.

We went there for dinner this week and it was excellent. They have a great selection of beers on tap, and the food is stellar. Especially the sweet potato fries! It’s enough to make me ask, “Allen’s? Who’s Allen?” Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not slagging Allen’s. It’s just that I live in the west end, and Dr. Generosity’s is much closer, and a much cheaper cab ride home should I decide to sample more than a couple of their fantastic beers. And since I’m not a Scotch drinker, I think it’s a pretty good deal!

Leah also enjoyed her meal – Coconut Grilled Tuna. It was a large portion with good flavour, cooked just the way she asked for it.

We will definitely be going back soon in spite of the weird name….

It’s a Wedding Weekend!

This weekend we’re heading north to celebrate the wedding of Mike and Kim (or is it Kim and Mike?). This will be the first opportunity for Leah and I to dance with one another; I think she’s looking forward to that as much as the wedding itself.

But then again, so am I!

And I’d like to place a public “bet” on how many times Leah and I will get asked, “So when are you two getting married?”

My bet is 18.

I’ll be bringing my digital and video cameras so I’ll post some pics/clips on Sunday.

Good bye Cupcake Shoppe…Hello San Remo’s

No more backpacking on the subway. No more questions about which shoes are in which closet. No more phone calls about how weird it is to be apart. We’ve decided to move in together!  This uptown girl is leaving her tiny apartment at Yonge and Eg and joining her west end boy in the snazzy condo at Parklawn and the Queensway. We’re so excited!  Now we just have to figure out where all our shoes will go :-)

Mobile Margarita Show this weekend

Leah and I are taking the Margarita Show on the road this weekend to the thriving metropolis of Kitchener-Waterloo. In exchange for a margarita or two, Y&K have offered up their BBQ and the spare room!

Sadly Trev and Dana can’t make it as they are heading up north to the cottage for an extended weekend getaway.

Clemente VII – Chianti Classico

We brought back two bottles of chianti from Italy. I gave one to my sister and kept the other one for us. She drank hers and told us that it was crap. Chris joked that it was probably the sausage and beer she chased it with – and after tonight’s meal I can say he’s right. We enjoyed my first attempt at Cottage Pie (although Chris says that it’s Sheppard’s Pie regardless of ingredients) and the second bottle of Clemente VII Chianti Classico.

MMMMMmmmmm…. it’s great! To any fellow wine lovers out there, just taste the difference between regular chianti and a chianti classico. Once you’ve enjoyed the rich berry dark side of the classico, you’ll never go back.

I love cottage life…

Our weekend at Loughborough Lake was a great success! Great friends, good food and awesome weather combined to make a memorable event. The drive out of Torontoon Friday evening was the only bummer… but we made the most of it by following Highway 2 for most of the route.

Swimming In Loughborough LakeAll three days at the cottage included lots of time in the lake as the heat of the sun made it a desirable location for all of us. After reviewing my photos from the weekend, it appeared as though Trevor rarely left the floating chaise! In reality, I think that Leah and I spent the most time in the water, but as the guy manning the camera there aren’t many pics of us. Trevor took lots of pictures, but I think that most of them were of Grant…

At Fort HenryOn Sunday Leah and I headed into Kingston to have breakfast with my Mom and Elizabeth & Adam. After a great breakfast at Denny’s, Leah and I toured around the city and ended up at Fort Henry. Aside from being a killer sleigh riding site, the best views of the city skyline can be found here. The wind was really rippin’ this day, and we watched as windsurfers tore across the open water towards Wolfe Island at unbelievable speeds!

On the Glenora FerryAs we hit the highway for the return to Toronto on Monday morning, we decided to take a more leisurely route back and not bother with the 401 until absolutely necessary. My alternative route took us along the shore of Lake Ontario from Kingston to the Glenora Ferry near Picton. Yvan and Kathryn followed us for most of the trek, and the four of us enjoyed lunch at Coach’s in downtown Picton before rejoining the 401. After a few more scenic excursions off the 401 through smalltown Ontario we eventually made it home to Toronto. Our long weekend, made even longer by the 7 hours of driving each way, was a lot of fun and has really kick started my mind into figuring out how we can get a cottage of our own…
