Turning 30 is a big deal to everyone but me!

Am I missing something? Every time the topic of my 30th birthday comes up (February 2 for those keeping score at home) people make it out to be this grand event that should be celebrated, and shouted from the tops of mountains!!! To me, it’s just another birthday, just another day in the life.

So what am I missing? Will life be dramatically different for me on February 3? Will my pants no longer fit? Will my bank account be be larger? Do I gain X-Ray vision? What happens that makes turning 30 so important? I think it’s fair to say that most of the population (in Canada) make it to 30, so it’s not a rare event; but there must be something to it. Something tangible that makes people get all crazy!

If you know, let me know. We don’t have much time if special preparations are required of me.

Ha Ha Ha!!!!

I found this great comic today at geekculture.com, and needed to share it:

What OS do you recommend?

I’ve Got An Idea!

This post might be a little nerdy, even by my standards, but I need to get this idea out into the open.

Here’s what I think the next round of personal home computers should be:

A personal computer styled like the iMac with the following features, geared towards the aging boomer crowd. The computer would have a large capacity flash drive and a removeable traditional hard drive. The removeable hard drive would sit shuttle tray, much like the new MacPro towers. The operating system would reside on the flash drive, and any of the users files would live on the removeable drive. The OS would be a scaled back version of OSX with Mail, Safari and iLife (iPhoto, iDVD, iMovie, iTunes, iChat, etc) built in, along with a reborn version of AppleWorks with the ability to save Word format files (.doc and the new OpenXML format). These basics would satisfy the needs of most of the targeted users. The system would include a DVD burner/player and an array of connection options – USB, FireWire, RCA, headphones, microphone, etc.

I’ll leave it at that for now, but if you’ve got a critique or suggestion about this idea, post it in the comments.

It’s Time For A Quest

Gelato from Blue Ice Cream in Piazza NavonaA quest to find gelato on par with what we had in Italy last May. It was fantastic! I’ve never had anything like it, and have been craving it from the minute I wiped the last bit of it off my lips last year.

My renewed interest in this quest was sparked by a drive along St. Clair West on Friday evening. I passed half a dozen places advertising their gelato. Thankfully I won’t have to twist Leah’s arm to come with me as we scour the city for a fix.

So faithful readers, where should we go for the best gelato in T.O.?

Jumping Up and Down

ok, I came here to write about seeing not one, but two women sporting crayon red highlights…but now I’ve just seen the beach picture and I’m trying not to jump up and down with excitment in my office :-)

Hooray! Hooray!  We’re heading to the beach.  Only 27 sleeps to go.  Bring on the sun and sand.

A Beach Scene…

Grand Bahia Principé Samaná

It’s official; we’re heading to Samaná! This is our first beach vacation together… and the first for Leah, ever. (In the early nineties my family went to Myrtle Beach; does that count?) Either way, we are VERY excited!

If you’ve been to the Dominican Republic before, please let us know what some of the “Don’t Miss This!” highlights are. Four weeks from today we will be kickin’ back on the beach!

The Log Driver’s Waltz

It’s been about 10 years since I last saw this video, but I still remember it word-for-word!

Trivial Pursuits…

Trivial Pursuit 90sOn Saturday evening Dana and Trevor came to have dinner and play “Trivial Pursuit 90s Edition” with us. Dinner was excellent. Trivial Pursuit not so much. The game is great fun, just as every previous edition of Trivial Pursuit is; the only downer is that it is very American – and unless you have a keen interest in American culture, politics, etc from the 90s, you’ll be left scratching your head on many occasions.

Dirty Andy’s getting married

It’s hard to believe, but my good buddy Dirty Andy (he’s a dirt biker racer… or at least that the story we’re going with) is engaged! I guess it is about time, as they have a one year old son, and are in their second home together… :)

Congratulations pal! Now the pressure is on me… as he and I have had a long standing promise to make the other one our best man, when either of us gets hitched. (And no, this is not the time to start asking about Leah and I!)
