iPod. Zune.

I’m an Apple guy. I have two Macs and three iPods, my business is Mac-based. With that said, I don’t understand how a company with the resources that Microsoft has can produce such a second rate product. Even their website looks cheap when compared to the iPod site. Do you know anyone with a Zune? Has anyone ever seen one in the wild?

And what’s up with their commercials?

Earthquake(s) In California

Last night there was an earthquake in California that measured 5.6 on the Richter Scale. Thankfully it doesn’t sound like there was any serious damage, etc. I was investigating the quake and found this United States Geological Survey webpage that lists all of the recent earthquakes in Nevada and California. Yikes! They happen all the time!

Today’s Head-scratching Moment

While in the corner store today, I couldn’t help but notice the purchases of the woman in front of me. She was not only buying Gravol and a hotdog simultaneously, but also popping a pill from the opened but unpurchased box of anti-nausea drugs. Now, a hotdog is never my first choice for lunch – especially from 7-Eleven – but doesn’t this combination of items seem a bit strange?

Crazy finish to a football game…

The commentator is a little hyperbolous (?), but wow, what a way to finish!

Dan in Real Life

Yesterday we saw Steve Carell’s new movie, Dan in Real Life. First off, it’s a great movie – happy, funny, sad, touching – it pulls on all the right heart-strings. Secondly, Steve Carell has perfected the sad-luck character that everyone roots for; from Andy Stitzer to Michael Scott to Dan Burns, you can’t help but like the characters he portrays. The movie also presents such a wonderful image of family life that I couldn’t help but start imagining what it will be like for Leah and I to have a lake front home, and have all of our family over, playing in the yard, etc…

My favourite things

In light of the post below, this thought feels a bit frivolous…but I this site never fails to provide a little pick-me-up and perspective on the world outside of my own life.

The Fires In California

California Fires From The Sky
I saw this image on CNN yesterday and was blown away by the vastness of the area that the fires are engulfing. But it made me wonder: “Are there really that many celebrities?”

Because just about every news broadcast about the people affected by the fires has actually been a story about celebrities affected by the fires. I watched a “news” clip about the fires and they interviewed Jane Seymour; they asked her “What would you lose if your house is burned down?” (I have no comment on the inappropriateness of the question right now.)

Her stonefaced (I say because she’s callous, not because of the cosmetic surgery) response was, “My oil paintings, all of my costumes, and of course, memories. But my husband is there to battle the fire. After the last fire we installed outdoor sprinklers so we have a lot more water and protection. If you had to pick one house to be in there, it’s ours!”

Now do you know anyone, living in the real world, that would give that type of answer? What about all of the people that have been evacuated from their homes that don’t have sprinkler systems in their yards? What about the average joe who is left helpless and will lose everything? Even thinking about our home burning down scares me – I can’t imagine what the people “living” in Qualcomm Stadium must be feeling.

Here’s hoping that it starts to rain, and the Santa Ana winds subside so that the firefighters can extinguish the fires.

Woo Hoo!!! We Got TFC Tickets!

I just got the call today letting me know that we are now Season Seat holders for the Toronto FC. Next season can’t come fast enough.

TFC! This is our house!!!

Today was the final game of the inaugural season for Toronto FC. We had the good fortune to attend a number of the games and we are totally hooked! The atmosphere at BMO Field is electric. We’ve signed up on the waiting list for season tickets. My fingers are crossed that a pair of tickets have our name on them come next season.

TFC scored in extra time to tie the game and the crowd went nuts! I can’t imagine what will happen should we actually win a championship, but I know I want to be there.

Hair these days

It started yesterday. On the Spadina streetcar I saw a girl sporting skipping ropes as hair accessories. Two lengths brightly coloured plastic were wrapped neatly around the two small buns on this girls head.

It continued today. Not one, but two girls breezed passed me with 4-inch turquoise combs wedged underneath their short ponytails.

Now I’m old enough that at one time I thought a scrunchie was the height of hair fashion. I even wore – and liked – a large faux-velvet bow shaped hair clip. But come on, skipping ropes and combs? Good grief….
